Leading property regeneration and placemaking specialist, Scarborough Group International (SGI) has been recognised for using the greenest, most carbon neutral aluminium on two of its latest commercial developments, offsetting more carbon than any other developer in UK to date.
SGI’s curtain walling contractor, Casu Consulto, has utilised a revolutionary new form of aluminium curtain walling on the envelope of B3, a 133,117 sq ft office building at Thorpe Park Leeds as well as Endeavour, a 65,000 sq ft office building at Sheffield Digital Campus.
The ground-breaking new product uses a minimum of 75 per cent post-consumer recycled aluminium, which has cut over 473 tonnes of CO2 emissions from the award-winning buildings and promises to be 100 per cent recyclable should the buildings be replaced in the future.
Technal’s Hydro CIRCAL 75R is a prime-quality aluminium that is obtained by dismantling old windows, doors and facades that have reached the end of their economic lifecycle and remelting them for reuse again. This process makes it possible to reduce the removal of minerals from the earth, avoids the emissions of waste into the natural environment, reduces the energy consumption of the production process and limits the amount of CO2 emissions released into the atmosphere.
Available exclusively through System supplier Technal UK, a brand of Hydro Building Systems UK limited, and subsidiary of Norwegian multinational company and innovator, Norsk Hydro, Hydro CIRCAL 75R is a much more environmentally friendly product than primary aluminium and one which contributes to the development of a circular economy through the reuse of materials.
A special award was presented by Technal UK to representatives from SGI, principal contractor GMI Construction Group, and architect CJCT on site at Thorpe Park Leeds last week, to coincide with World Recycling Week 2022.

Earlier this month SGI announced an agreement to let the entire building to BT in the largest single office deal in Sheffield since 2016.
